Perumbalam, just 20 kilometres away from Kochi is a small island in Alappuzha district which was formed more than 1000 years ago. It can be said as an island lost in time as the total land area shrunk by the passage of time. With a population of just 10000 odd, Perumbalam is a very small island of 16 sqkms and a beautiful place to be visited. Though it is a small piece of land situated in Vembanad lake, it boasts of about 30 temples and tops the list of highest numbers PSC applicants from a place in Kerala. The only transportation means are Jhankar(to carry cars & trucks) and ferry. It is also a place which don’t have a police station. It is believed that Tipu Sultan on his conquering spree had set his feet in this this small island.

The best time to visit Perumbalam is during the winter months, from November to February, when the weather is pleasant and suitable for outdoor activities. While no specific permissions are needed to explore the region, it's advisable to check for any local events or festivals that might impact your travel plans. Since Perumbalam is an island with no road or bridge to neighbouring places, the only transportation medium is water/lake, and can reach there by boat. The place have about 10 plus boat jetty’s is various parts of the island and the major being Panavally, Vathikkad, Poothotta, South Paravoor etc.
The ferry frequency is quite good and if you are planning to bring your car, you must be aware of the Jhankar timings, or you may get stuck. Timings from 2 major Jhankar points are given below:-

Best time to visit is between November to Feb. During monsoons also, the place look stunning; but accessing the location can be bit cumbersome.
